Ms. Nervelle has an engaging young adult novel published by Downeast Books in 2007.  The Witch of Beaver Creek Mine is a heart-warming, adventurous tale of a young Micmac Indian boy who comes of age on his family's Nova Scotia farm.

"...too late, he saw the edge of the mine shaft.  Dead branches and debris crisscrossed the dark hole.  In a split second they gave way under his weight, and he fell through, arms and legs flailing....  He slowly raised his head and was about to cry out when a dim glow gradually spread over the opening of the hole.  Johnny's heart leaped with excitement.  His rescuer had built a fire and would save him.  Encouraged by that thought, he looked up.  But what he saw was the frightening face of Old Maud."
